“Too Big To Rig”

Canada lit up Niagara Falls with blue lights Tuesday night, November 3. While it is fun to think that this represented the blue tsunami that led the Democrats to a historic victory in the mid-term elections, in fact the falls were lit for Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. Karma or coincidence? Either way it is a good omen.

For those of us that wondered how our country got to the point that we are at now under the Trump administration, I received a much needed boost of hope that our fellow Americans are as fed up with their shenanigans as I am. Apparently a constant diet of worrying about costs, corruption and chaos is as sickening to most Americans as it is to much of the world. The voters gave the Democrats solid majorities in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Perhaps just as important, Democrats made significant gains at the state and local levels as governors, legislatures, Attorneys General and a host of other important, but less hyped, offices flipped from the Republicans to the Democrats. Thankfully, a constant stream of vile racist and misogynistic slurs does not convince voters that MAGA politicians can govern and make their lives better.

Trump and his henchmen will be in the White House for two more years. The architects of the war of choice against Iran, the mass deportation of hard working immigrants and the Project 2025 playbook remain. They have not given up on their goal of turning our country into a white Christian nationalist society controlled by rich white men. However, it will be much more difficult for them to do so.

There are many issues confronting our future well-being as individuals and the future course of our republic. But for now, we can take a little time to breathe a sigh of relief, rejoice in the demonstration of our ability to vote and maybe smile a little bit.
