On Wednesday this week Trump and members of his administration participated in the dignified transfer ceremony at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware to honor the loss of First Lt James Feehan, Pvt Isabella Gonzalez, Sgt Angel Ramersad, and Sgt Emmanuel Swinton in combat during the Iran War. On Thursday, their names disappeared from the official Pentagon web site that lists those killed in action during Operation Epic Fury.

The official reason provided was that they disappeared due to “temporary data disruptions” that would be quickly fixed. As of five minutes ago I checked and their names are still missing.

Reporting from the New York Times quotes three officials from the Trump administration explaining that the names were removed because “their deaths occurred after President Trump declared a cease-fire in the war in April”.

In other words, they were removed for political reasons. The administration will not admit that we are currently at war. Casualties are a distraction that takes away from their carefully crafted mythology that we are winning bigly and that this is not a real war. As Trump called it this week, it is just a skirmish.

Tell that to the people in the line of fire. Tell that to the families of those killed and wounded. This is how they honor those that give their all for their country. It is inconvenient to admit that we are at war so they just get scrubbed from a data base.

Despicable. These are the so called leaders putting our troops in harms way. I am so angry I can barely type. They deserve better. We deserve better.

I’m Sorry, But….

On the front page of today’s Washington Post (print edition), there is an article on Army PFC Bradley Manning, who was just convicted of releasing hundreds of thousands of classified documents damaging to the United States, revealing that he suffers from gender dysphoria.  In other words, he wishes to live the rest of his life as a woman and is concerned that he may not get the desired treatment in the jail at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

Right next to the article on the front page is a picture of an honor guard carrying the remains of Army Master Sergeant George Bannar Jr. upon their arrival at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.  Master Sergeant Bannar was killed during his fifth tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Whether or not PFC Manning is sincere in his desire to become a woman, I cannot say.  It may well be the case.

However, I do know this.  There is no moral equivalency between the alleged suffering that PFC Manning or his family may be going through and that of Master Sergeant Bannar’s family.

I’m sorry, but I hope that we do not hear anything more about PFC Manning.
